Hi there,

I will be starting a nursing degree next September in Cambridge Uk. Previous to that i looked at studying in the US and got a lot of acess to the modules i would otherwise be doing , such as anatomy, physiology etc. I got some information from cambridge University and its mentioned something rather different ( people as individuals, public health and primary care etc) How can it be so different, does anyone from the UK had a subject (module they think its particularly difficult) i know some people i got to know in the US struglled with having to memorize Anatomy...what abouth math for nursing is that an issue...

Thanks so much in advance for any ideas...Carla..UK

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Training in the US is a lot different that training in the UK. Also each university in the UK will do things differently. Training in the UK is more specialised with a core foundation for the first 18 months and then you separate out to your speciality. The US training is more general with theory and clinical in all areas

Huddersfield, used to be my local university states this on their website plus lists what the course structure is going to be for the 3 years

Entry Requirements

* 5 GCSEs at C grade or above to include English, Maths and preferably a science subject.

* NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care.

* Access Course that includes GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above, or equivalent.

* Other qualifications that we consider equivalent to those set out above.

It is advantageous, for those students who aim to transfer to the degree course, to have studied at AVCE, BTEC/EDXCEL National Diploma or Advanced GCE in a science subject.

We welcome students of any age. You will need to provide evidence of literacy, numeracy, good health and good character as required by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). These will be assessed during the selection process and interview. You will also be expected to demonstrate an understanding of the role of the Adult branch nurse and the interpersonal skills required to work in the nursing profession.
