I need to know why a COPD patient would require oxygen to be given via a Venturi mask.
Thankyou

Venti-mask will delivered a preset/ordered oxygen concentration to the patient. COPD pt's have be given oxygen is only required concentrations and amounts or you will knock out the respiratory drive leading to intubation, these pt's are always harder to wean off ventilators so it's better to prevent that if possible and give what they need to breathe. The panic associated with the inablility to breathe is great, and if you want to know what it feels like to breath via endotracheal tube-take a straw and place it in you mouth, hold your nose tightly and without cheating breathe in and out only through the straw-kinda of scary to breathe that way even if you are 100% O2 because it sure doesn't feel like it. flearman:D
