contacting hiring manager

Published

I am a new grad, graduated in May 2013, passed my NCLEX after the second time in August 2013.

I have been applying to jobs all over, and have only been asked for one interview. I did not get that job.

I have applied to another local hospital, and my status online says "you are actively being considered. You will be contacted if you are chosen for an interview". I thought this was great news, but since it has said that for 2 months now, I'm starting to lose hope. I have even called HR several times for a follow up but I've been told they are still doing interviews.... well I find that hard to believe anymore because the job posting is no longer online.

I have a friend who works at this hospital and has spoke to the hiring manager on the unit I applied to. The manager gave my friend her direct office number and told my friend to have me call her directly, as she has a night shift she is trying to fill. This was 2 weeks ago. I have called her 4 times, and have left 2 separate messages about a week apart stating that my friend had spoken with her, I was very interested in the night shift opening, and to call me back to talk about it. I have received nothing in return. I realize she is probably a busy woman but this is becoming so discouraging.

My question is... what should I do now? Should I somehow get her email and try emailing her? I don't want to come off as being so desperate and I definitely do not want to annoy anyone. I just don't understand why she would give her number for me to call and not call me back.

Any advice would be great! Thank you.
