Contacted Oprah Show About Nursing Issues

Hello everyone!

Yes, after visiting this website many, many times-I decided to e-mail the Oprah show to suggest a show about the issues in the nursing profession. No, I'm not a nurse yet-I start nursing school in the fall. I want to become a nurse so badly, but am scared to death after reading post after post after post about how horrible the working conditions are for nurses. It seems that nurses want to be heard, but nobody is listening. Some of the wages that nurses are getting paid and nurse-to-patient ratios are absolutely horrible for people who have patient's lives in their hands every day. Why not make some serious racket? Maybe all of you should contact the Oprah show too, which could possibly help raise a red flag. This is just an idea. What do you all think? Sorry if I sound naiive-I'm just trying to help.

I think that Oprah only likes Doctors...;) I don't watch often but usually when I do she has Dr Oz on....

Ben123's comment is well stated. I absolutely love what I do and especially love what I am learning in school now. This license gives you a ticket to do anything you want. Employment and continuing education opportunities are limitless in our current healthcare setting. People are at where they are today due to the choices and actions they themselves committed to. I do not think Oprah is the answer. She will probably only give you people a makeover and treat her audience to some hyperinflated sob story. My spouse watches this show. I've seen it once and now have one hour of my life that I can never get back. Maybe Dr. Phil can help, I hear he is a great listener and therapist.

i love what i do too - doesnt mena im not frustrated with what i am NOT ABLE to get done- i did not hire the jerks that short staff us and it is no differnet anywhere in our area- as for continuing ed - yeah if you have lots of money - no place around here pays for it and one course costs over 125 dollars i dont have to go to, not to mention id have to pay for over night wherever cause they are at least a 3 - 5 hour drive depending where they are at - whats dr phil onna do- find me a new hubby so i can get rid of the lazy one i have that efuses to work so i dont have to - anyone tyhhat touts internet dating has got to have a screw loose - ( not that its bad - iknow several very happy couples met of internet - but that crap he touts is all about money not love ) - besides if thats all i could get i could use a makeover lol. when your done with school and working in the real world with an overload of patients i hope you are able to keep your optimistic tone.

I contacted the Oprah show via email a couple of years back. I wrote a persuasive letter as to why Oprah should do a show on nursing. I only received a customary thank you in return. I'm surprised that a show hasn't been done on this subject. You know I think there are too many people with a vested interest that wouldn't want a show like this to take place. Therefore whether it's Oprah or any other show it's not likely to happen. I HOPE one day it does because people will not believe how their lives are in jeopardy when they get admitted to the hospital. There are so many issues that affect patient care but I think staffing is really the most important. I can't believe what these hospitals get away with in terms of staffing. I see new nurses getting pulled to floors that they are clearly not qualified to go to but they are told "Hey this is nursing get used to it". That's terrible. Basicallly it is a ticking time bomb and the public needs to be aware. I can go on and on. My question is this . Why don't we hear anything about the abuses in nursing? There must be someone or something squashing our voices. It's just unbelievable.

maybe we all need to go undercover ourselves- any good pproducers and stuff among us lol - id be happy to be an undercover nurse - secnd thought better not - i tend to be in the office to much fighting for patient rights - couldnt stay back and just tape it lol. bet of someone went undercover LOTS of stations would pay for the deal ;)

Damn, I thought he cared! There are a lot of "cute little nurses" though. I am married to one. Don't worry man, I have connections with people at the Dr. Laura Schlessinger show.

I absolutely love her!!! ;)
