Considering Legal Nurse Consulting Career

Hi All! I'm considering legal nurse consulting, but would like some input. I'm currently a developmental disabilities nurse working in administration, but I have only 2.5 years experience as an RN. I understand the AALNC recommends that one have 3-5 years experience to enter the field. My reasons for wanting to enter this field are many and varied, but suffice it to say that I love research, writing and find the law very fascinating. Aside from the fact that I have 2.5 years experience, I also have only my associates degree and it is my goal to earn my Masters degree. My question for those of you with experience.....is it feasible for me to consider going into this field with my current experience and, because I'm determined to obtain my advanced degree, should I go for that first? I should mention that I have 3 teenagers at home and work full-time.

Any advice or experiences you would like to share with me would be greatly appreciated. I am extremely interested in Legal Nurse Consulting, I just don't know which path to take first.

It really depends on what you really place as priority #1. Advance your degree or change career paths and become an LNC. Both will take time and effort, but the latter will demand a lot of time as you market yourself, build up a business, etc.

Where are you now in your consideration(s)??
