Considering Change to LTC

Published

Specializes in LTC.

I am considering a change to LTC nursing and I have a few questions:

1. I am looking at a facility that is close to my house that is part of the Golden Living Centers company (used to be Beverly Healthcare) Does anyone know anything about them?

2.They have an ad for a LPN charge nurse casual. What is a casual LPN?

3. Is it easy to get FT hours at an LTC facility. I have seen a few post where people are having difficulty getting hours. I have to work FT! I don't want to trade my current salaried position for an unstabnle one.

4. Are most LTC facilities staffed 12hour shifts? That is what I want.

Thanks for the input!

In my area, it is ridiculously easy to get full-time hours in LTCFs, primarily as the result of the high employee turnover rates experienced by these facilities. Nurses are always quitting, which always means plenty of hours for you. At my workplace, a nurse could accrue 96 hours in a single week if (s)he was crazy enough to do such a thing.

In my area, the overwhelming majority of LTCFs offer 8 hour shifts (7 to 3pm, 3 to 11pm, and 11 to 7am, or 6 to 2pm, 2 to 10pm, and 10 to 6am). I work the 16 hour weekend double shift, from 6am to 10pm every Saturday and Sunday.

Haven"t been here in awhile. I have been quite busy. My son who is schizrophrenic moved in with us and I had to have ankle surgery. I fell on down my steps going to the laundry room and hit my ankle going down. My son is in PA for now but will be back this month sometime. We are trying to see what we can do for living arrangements for him. I feel guilty for saying we can't handle him....but we just can't. I know this isn't the thread for this but you wondered where i have been.

Just a guess, but casual could mean PRN.

casual means no set hours, generally, though u may be guarenteed so many per month if u want.they scedule their reg. staff, and then u can sign up for any hr.s not filled.you will also get called first if someone calls in sick, but u don't have to work then. most places want u to work so many shifts per month to stay on as casual
