UConn CEIN/BS 2017

U.S.A. Connecticut

Published

Hi all,

I saw a great thread from last year about UConn's 2016 CEIN/BS applicant pool and thought I'd start a new thread for applicants in the 2017 cycle.

I applied for the January 31st deadline. Based on everything I read on last year's thread, I'm thinking I'll hear back anytime between the first week of March and the last week of April - trying to stay patient! I am still working on 2 prerequisite courses but they should be done at the end of March. We'll see how the outstanding courses may affect my decision date. Stamford is my first choice for campus since I currently live/work in NYC and it's not too far away from where I currently am.

I'm excited to hear from anyone else applying to the program and what your application experience is like. Good luck to everyone!

I'm applying to the 2017 program as well. I've considered having Waterbury campus as my first choice and Storrs as my second since I live much closer to the Waterbury campus. However, I've heard that the sim labs at Storrs are better and the Storrs nursing class has better clinical placements. Can anyone that's been through the program offer any insight on the Waterbury program vs the Storrs one? Also, for anyone that's already been accepted into the 2017 program, have they released any information about clinical sites that each campus offers? I'd really appreciate any input :)

I did the program at Waterbury. The Storrs sim lab is a much better facility. However, we rarely did sim lab. Like once or twice a semester. And for summer and fall semesters, we had sim lab days where everyone from all 4 campuses went to Storrs for sim lab. So while the Storrs definitely has better sim facilities, I don't think I missed out on much educationally by going to Waterbury.

I'm not sure what the placements are currently for all the campuses, but they seemed pretty much on par with each other when I did the program. Waterbury campus, not surprisingly, uses the two local hospitals (Waterbury and St. Mary's) for med-surg, but also had some in Hartford. Specialties are harder to place, and I think all the campuses sent groups to Ct. Valley Hospital for psych. I know Waterbury sent people to UCONN health center in Farmington for psych, too. Peds again gets spread out; we had people going to soccer camp in Storrs, Stamford Hospital, and CCMC; I think Storrs had those options minus Stamford. OB for us was back to Waterbury Hospital and St. Mary's.

I think Waterbury is easier and less expensive in general. Parking passes at the satellite campuses are way less than at Storrs, and the Waterbury parking garage is attached to the building. No matter the weather, I was always a 3 minute, dry walk to class. At Storrs, it's going to be a 10-15 minute outdoor schlep to class. Plus, if you're closer to Waterbury, you'll probably have to get through Hartford traffic, and that can be brutal.

Storrs definitely has more of a "college experience" vibe to it. You'll be on campus with lots of other people. There's the food court, sports events, people from other programs. The branch campuses like Waterbury tend to be more program-focused. At Waterbury, I didn't really see much of or interact with non-nursing students. This is primarily because they do nursing classes on Fridays when the regular classes don't meet. The result is a tight-knit bunch (generally), and a focus on making it through the program to become nurses. I don't know how much a wider college experience matters to you, but Storrs is really the only campus where you'll find it.

Has anyone heard yet? This is so anxiety provoking!!!!

I haven't heard anything still - have you??!

Nope! Nothing yet! My husband is a teacher...so he is home for summer vacation. Everyday I text from work asking if the mail came!

Based on past years...it should be soon!

Nothing yet here!

Hi all, I've been watching in the background and thought I would join in. I applied for the June deadline and am stalking the mailman every day now- the waiting is hard! I showed kbaron's post to my husband bc I drive him nuts with 'is the mail there yet' texts also :) Does anyone know if we get a letter either way or just if we are accepted?

I am unsure if accepted or not accepted all get letters... Another reason I watch this board! I want to know if you all start getting acceptance letters...and I don't get anything!

Hi everyone! I also applied for the 6/30 due date. I just spoke to someone at admissions. She told me that due to the high volume of applicants they have not finished reviewing all the applications and it will probably be closer to the end of the month when we hear back. Glad to hear that I'm not the only one asking if the mail has come yet. Good luck to everyone! :)

Yeah, end of July now :( the wait is getting to be too much! I was told everyone is going to be mailed out a letter, regardless of the decision.

Just a little update but I was told next week decisions will be sent out! Storrs is almost full.

I got an email...! In for Avery Point!

Congratulations!! Still waiting :( Do you mind sharing your stats??
