Well I had a interview today, this was all pending my certification, the interview went well or so I thought, the dr interviewing me wanted to know how soon I would be able to start I told him after i passed my exam he told me that I could work under his license until I got my certification, as he has a gal in the office doing that now she takes her exam and he had me talk to her, he said all I would have to do was get an RN license for that state until I passed the exam. any way end of interview no talk of salary etc... after I left I called back to see if they wanted me to pursue getting licensed in that state the answer was no wait till I pass my exam and to call them and the dr would let me know then if I was being hired:cry: 2 questions

1. Is it legal to work under a md's license prior to cert

2. Am i correct to assume they are not interested after all

No you cannot work as an NP without the license. You can work for him as an RN if you have that license, but not in the NP role.

I would assume they may have realized you can't work in the NP role under his license and just call when you get licensed.

he is opening himself up to all sorts of problems if he is letting an RN work in an NP role without the advanced license.

Specializes in allergy and asthma, urgent care.

I think you need to check with your state BON to see what the regulations are regarding working pending licensure. In my state (MA), you are allowed to work in the NP role pending licensure, providing you are taking your certification exam in a "reasonable" time frame. I had to have someone review and countersign my notes, but I was working before I took my boards.

In New Mexico you can work as a GNP (graduate NP) until results of the test are published. You have to be supervised by either an MD, DO, or CNP (NP here in NM).
