Confused

Hello,

I am an ICU nurse, and planning to be Nurse Anesthesia. But my friends and co workers have mixed response of it. some say that it is not worthdoing or difficult to do. Some are of the opinion that it is a great idea. Will someone guide me?

Also can anyone let me know the available financing plains for funding the college and living expenses during the course period? I live in florida.

Thank you

I had to respond to this! Please understand that most people are afraid of this program, and they will try to pass their fears unto you. You have to have a strong back bone when it comes to fulfilling your dream. Yes the program is hard, but so is everything else that is worth having. Keep your dreams and goals to yourself, make a checklist, and check things off as you go along. You know like the GRE, CCRN, letters of recom, etc. GO FOR IT! In the future, they are the same one who will be jealous of YOU. I can't tell you about the cost aspect of it because I am working on applying in 2010. So, do this for you and your family.

ok..will try to keep this short. CRNA school is hard. Mentally, physically, emotionally, and financially. If it is what you want to do, do it! If you are just bored or looking for something to do, think twice. I would suggest before you make a decision either way, to investigate the field. Shadow CRNA's and really see what they do, you will need this for your application and interview anyways.

But, yes it's definitely doable. I am also living in Florida and had my first day of CRNA school on Monday. And trust me, it's not a cake walk. But, I love the field and am willing to sacrifice whatever I need to achieve it. The financing is much harder to get than it used to be, but money is there. Some hospitals and anesthesia groups can also help pay for school, but of course at a price to you. IF anyone chooses this route, I would just reccomend really investigating the contract.

Good luck...it can be a hard road, but worth it in the end.

You need to realize that you are asking people who are not CRNA's or SRNA's. Heck if they thought it was a wonderful idea they would do it themselves. Think of it like this - what percentage of the students in your nursing school wanted to work critical care? Small percentage of the total I am sure. The others where either scared of critical care, not interested, or felt it was to overwhelming. Well its the same scenario again with the critical care nurses you work with when they think about an advanced degree. Some are just not interested, some are overwhelmed at the thought and some are just not willing/capable to make the sacrifices required. Dont let them get ya down :D
