i'm confused with prioritization

Published

i have three diagnosis with my client. and i'm really confused when it comes to prioritization. I need help guys.

here are my diagnoses.

Deficient diversional activity related to insufficient time for leisure activities; restlessness; inability to perform recreational activity; and stress overload.

Stress overload related to multiple stressors (physical and emotional demands); mismanagement of time.

Situational low self-esteem related to disturbed body image; developmental changes; rejection; unsatisfactory level of self-esteem; and feelings of abandonment.

i wanna say thank you in advance ..

What is/are the pt's medical diagnosis?

What are his major signs/symptoms?

That's what anyone would need to know first.

May I ask, what is your field of specialty - in other words, what type of nurse are you, and what floor are you on? From there can give you some advice!

The poster is only 18- They must be a student.

i am a nursing student ..

my clinical instructor told me to prioritize according to these criteria:

1. nature/type of the problem (maslow's hierarchy of needs/ ABC)

2. modifiability/resources

3. preventive potential/ urgency

4. client's priority

and i don't know how to start ..

anyway, thanks for the reply ..

Specializes in med/surg, telemetry, IV therapy, mgmt.

use maslow's hierarchy of needs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/maslow's_hierarchy_of_needs

  1. stress overload related to multiple stressors (physical and emotional demands); mismanagement of time.
  2. deficient diversional activity related to insufficient time for leisure activities; restlessness; inability to perform recreational activity; and stress overload.
    • "restlessness; inability to perform recreational activity; and stress overload" are patient symptoms that support this problem and not related factors.
    • stress overload shouldn't be used because it has it's own diagnosis

[*]situational low self-esteem related to disturbed body image; developmental changes; rejection; unsatisfactory level of self-esteem; and feelings of abandonment.

  • "unsatisfactory level of self-esteem" is a judgment by who?
  • "feelings of abandonment" is a patient symptom that supports the diagnosis and not a related factor

may i know what should be the justification statement in that order? ^

thank you .. :)

I gave it to you. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Read the information on the weblink.

  1. Stress Overload - physiological need
  2. Deficient Diversional Activity - self-esteem sense of self worth need
  3. Situational Low Self-Esteem - self-esteem need for independence
