I am a LVN Trach Nurse at my work. We have had a change of Respiratory Director. I came to the director to tell him about a new trach nurse that had started and addressed some concerns. The RT Director wants to make me a preceptor so that I can do skills validation on other trach nurses. Am I able to do skills evaluations for the other trach nurses? The RT Director is going to do a skills evaluation on me so that I will be able to do it for the other trach nurses. I'm confused because I thought that the RT Director would be the one to validate if a person is qualified to do trach nursing.

You need to look at your states practice act regarding nursing skills permitted.
Unit rrientation and skills validation is usually an RN or RT task. If you are not confident, decline. You can orient to only what is in your scope of practice.

If you can perform the skill, your institution can allow you to serve as the competency-trainer. If you're training RTs or RNs, for the sake of competency an LPN can serve that role for the institution. That role is not bound to delegatory-regulations, its simply a trainer-position.
Unless of course there is something in your states Practice Act that explicitly forbids it.
