Confused about Controlled Substance license in the state of Illinois

Published

Hello,

I have received my Nurse Practitioner (NP) license. I have sent the application for Controlled Substances. I'm a little bit confused on the definition of Controlled Substances. Without it, can I prescribe medications that require a prescription, but is not a narcotic or benzodiazepine? For example, without the Controlled Substance license, can I prescribe blood pressure medication or insulin?

I live in Illinois.

Il requires collaborative agreement and then your controlled substance licensure is linked to that. Once you have collaborative agreement signed then yes you prescribe insulin, HTN meds
