When I was in undergrad, I never knew that some programs weren't fully accredited! Luckily my program was accredited, but I know of many nurses who were put through the wringer because their program wasn't accredited. How on earth can a program run and not be fully accredited? Anyway, now that I'm thinking about entering a MSN program, I am checking out the accreditation, but I must admit that I don't know what type of accreditation to look for. Do I need to ask my BON what proper accreditation is for my state?

yes, and for any other state you think you might move to. a bunch of those for-profit online schools are not accepted by every bon.

The program might be new.
The program might have changed drastically (e.g., going from diploma to degree) and requires a new accreditation.
The program might be in the process of getting accredited but has not completed the accreditation process yet.
The program may have once been accredited but lost it for whatever reason.
The program may be in the process of switching accreditation agencies.
The program just doesn't care if it's accredited.
