Confused about Accelerated BSN/MSN programs

Hi...I'm interested in starting a "new career" in nursing (i've only been out of undergrad a year). I have a BS in Math and spanish and i've been looking in to accelerated programs in the southeast (as of yesterday Duke, UNC, U of S. AL, Johns Hopkins, Emory, Vanderbilt). ok, so my question is what should i be looking for in these programs (or any accel. nursing program) besides cost, fin aid, time length, pre-reqs? :uhoh3: What types of questions should I be asking the admissions counselors? If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated b/c i could make a more focused and intelligent decision about what type of programs I should apply to. right now i'm traveling in a circle. thanks! :chuckle :)

ps. i know this type of questions is probably posted somewhere but i got tired of search the threads. if you could refer me to a link that would be good.

I would call the nursing dept directly and ask them how many clinical hours there are for the program, (the more the better!) also any questions directly about the program are better answered by the nursing dept., NOT the admissions dept (they don't always know what's going on, although they claim to...) Good luck! :)

I believe that each state Board of Nursing sets a minimum number of clinical hours and breakdown by area for nursing programs, I haven't seen too much variation in my area. Ask also about how long the program has been in existence, first-time pass rate for the NCLEX, and admission statistics such as how many applicants for how many spots, GPA and/or test scores for those who are actually admitted, and what prerequisites are required. I looked at 3 accelerated BSN programs in my area, ranging from 12 to 20 months. Many prereqs were the same, but some were not. Tuition varied greatly. You might also ask for the names of recent grads who have agreed to be contacted, and attend an open house/info meeting.
