Conestoga/Mohawk McMaster RPN to BScN fall 2020 intake

Published

Hello,

Who is going to be applying to McMaster RPN-Bscn program for fall 2020?

Well! Still settling in. The virtual learning bit is not helping much but getting my grounding. The momentum is catching up and things getting real busy now. You in the program as well or looking to join?

Looking to start next Intake ?

How many classes do you have 6? I am in the RPN right now but want to bridge. Do you start placement this term? Also if you don't mind my asking what was your average to get in?

Start early. We have four courses (classes) this semester. No placement this semester. Just some virtual tutorial lab sessions. I had 4.0 average.

Hi MajiMoto,

How is your experience at the RPN to BSCN bridging at Momac?

Would love to hear from you about the details on 1st year workload and how your school schedule looks like. I would like to see if I can still keep a part time job while doing school. Thank you!

So far good. Haven’t had the privilege of in class learning. Remote learning has been boring but looks like it’s the only way to go for now unless the next year is different. It’s been a tough year with crazy but manageable workload. It depends on other factors like if your are single or have a family and a parties job. I work casual and that’s afforded me the flexibility to adjust to my workload.
Are you joining the MoMac program as well?

Hi all,

I accepted my offer to George brown in May but just got an offer to MoMac today. I’m just wondering how it’s been going for anyone in both programs. How hard is it. How is the workload. What kinds of courses do you take. Also, what is the mark you have to maintain in order to continue in the programs? Now torn between these two programs as I heard McMaster is pretty research based and not sure how I feel about that.

Thank you!

I would say that it isn’t hard. It’s just the workload that is a lot. If you have good time management skills, then you will be fine. I have a terrible time management but I made it through first year. I will definitely but adjusting for fall.

First year of 1st sem I took statistics course, nursing professional course, integrative biology, and social determinants of health. Second semester was research course, integrative biology II, nursing professional and community placement.

You need to maintain 63%+ overall GPA to avoid academic probation. And you need 60% to pass all nursing and health science courses.

I believe all Bscn program have research courses and science as well. You take 1 research course in first year and I believe another one in second year.

Your information is helpful. You also answered me on the other forum LOL. It’s strange though the curriculum I’m seeing online has way different courses than what you mentioned. I did ask about the overall GPA on the other response as well but this feels less stressful as it would be easier knowing you have to maintain a 60+ in the program rather than stressing about a 75-80.

I will answer here from other thread.

First year is just basic nursing stuff. Since I am going second year (level 3 as an RPN-BSCN student), in first semester I will be placed in clinical placement (med surg unit most likely), and in the second semester, I will have to attend lab at Conestoga college.

Yeah, I hate presentations too! I am not going to lie, the zoom classes made it easier to present vs. standing in front of the class. It will be group presenting so you only say your part for few minutes, most of it is not even for marks so it is OK. Edit: Sorry LOL I should probably say it's more type of a discussion/presentation, just answering the questions.

The curriculum you may be looking at the wrong one. Here is the link to RPN-BSCN program (2020).

Yeah, what I like about the program is that you need 60+ to continue and we don't have to re-apply to continue like Centennial/Ryerson bridging program.

Thank you! I appreciate all your insight! It gives me a lot to think about. I feel like I’m leaning more towards George Brown mostly because id like a more hands on approach rather than research and self directed learning. I still have until next week to make my decision though. I guess having zoom discussions isn’t too bad LOL but having them all the time, ugh.

wow! I was definitely looking at the wrong curriculum LOL. I was wondering how all these courses were involved and I wasn’t seeing much of what I know should be on there. Thank you!

Yes! Do what is best for you. Not everyone will like PBL.

I know you said I was looking at the wrong curriculum but I’m sooo confused. My offer letter says the program code is 755 and when I look online that curriculum or “program of studies” is different.
