So, I have been looking for MONTHS for a good new grad program. I live in Durham, but nobody is interested since I dont have experience and I didnt complete my clinicals here. I moved from Ohio.
What are people's thoughts on the Cone Health New Grad program? I know it used to have a bad reputation, does that still apply today?
any new grads worked there that want to share their stories?
I have an interview on Monday. Any thoughts and tips on that? (I probably really suck at interviews, because nobody calls me back after my interview)

Requires a 30 month commitment - if you leave the "Cone Academy" early, you could owe the hospital system up to $5000. After you finish the "Academy", you still have to apply for a position for employment with the department you did the "Academy" in. Just an fyi.
Thank you. So, even after I finish the Academy, there is not guarantee Ill get the job I want. (I would want to work in the Alamance hospital) the 30 Month commitment is a little scary as well.

Wow. Now I'm glad they rejected me. 30 months is ludicrous, and this apply-after-Academy-thing doesn't sound like they're committed to their nurses.

I work in the Cone system and from what I'm hearing from the academy new grads we've had coming through (we're on round 2) they're mostly ending up where they want to be, and I say mostly because even though I haven't heard anyone didn't end up where they wanted to be, I suppose it's possible. They still have another round or two to do but apparently already know where there final "home" will be.

Hi zipzip. I will be interviewing soon for cone. How is it like working there. What benefits are there. Do they pay for advancing your career. How is the pay like?? Staff and environment? I would appreciate if you can help me with some answers. Thank you

So, for the academy you rotate through the hospitals and then find out what jobs are open. You get to apply for your preference but are guaranteed no specific hospital/shift. While that's not guaranteed I've never heard of them bringing a new grad through the academy and then there is no job. It doesn't make sense to spend the money training them if you aren't going to hire them in the end.

Do not go anywhere near Cone. They are the LEAST employee friendly hospital system I have ever known of, and I have been a nurse all my life. They do not care about their employees in the least, and as a nurse you will constantly be reminded that "there is a nurse waiting in every doorway for your job. If you don't like these working conditions, you should leave" AND "Cone Health is doing you a favor by allowing you to work here. You should be glad you have a job." They reorganize all the time and simply fire people who are not "yes" people. I worked there for almost two years and went through 3 nurse managers (each progressively worse). Ive never seen anything like it. Just trying to save yo some time.
