concern on this question ???

I went throught this practice question on my study material and concerned because you don't suppose to ask the patients the why word am I correct or wrong ? How would you answer this question ??

You are preparing to implement teaching about a heart healthy diet and activity levels for a client who has had a MI and her husband . The client says , "I don't see why I need any teaching. I don't think I need to change anything right now".Which response is most appropriate ???

1."Do you think your family may want you to make some lifestyle changes ?"

2. " Can you tell me why you don't feel that you need to make any changes?"

3."You are still in the stage of denial , but you will want this information later on.

4. "Even though you don't want to change , it's important that you have this teaching."

I will choose no 2. what is your answer. and what rationale do you have in your book?

I would choose 4, bc in the teaching he may open and he realize how important it is. I also tend to question 2 as well, but it is a why question and it can offend the patient. so my guess is 4. What is the rational

2 is the answer. I think :)

answer no. 2 is not WHY answer in the other way round.

i think, no 2 question is just for you to find out the reason that the client made the above

statement

U don't ask why questions with psych patients FYI

I had chosen number 4 at the beginning and was confuse about 2 because of the word why I didn't want to offend the patient , but the rationale states this

Correct answer 2 ,

For behavior to change , the client must be aware of the need to make changes . This response acknowledges the clients statement and asks for further clarification. This will give you more information about the clients feelings current diet and activity levels and may increase the willingness to learn. The other responses ( Althought possibly accurate) indicate an intention to teach whether the client is ready or not and are not likely to lead to changes in client lifestyle .

Thank you guys for your help , so for further questions the word why is leading toward psych questions and this one is different , thanks a lot :)

2. " Can you tell me why you don't feel that you need to make any changes?"

this not the WHY question. the above question can also be put in this way. " can you tell me the reason you don't feel that you need to make any changes?
