Concept mapping

I am a second year nursing student. Last year we used the "dredded" care plans to document out clinical clients. This year we are supposed to use concept mapping. It just seems terribly unorganized and "hodge podge" to me. Would appreciate any helpful hints or suggestions to make concept mapping not seem so disorganized.

Thanks..

I don't know that it'll help, but at least you'll have a tool...

Specializes in med/surg, telemetry, IV therapy, mgmt.

a concept map is just a different physical presentation of a care plan. the other styles are a table format, a critical pathway (day-to-day flow) and a case study (essay). a concept map, or care map, is still a care plan. many instructors feel that the value of a concept mapping is that it visually shows you how the steps of the nursing process are related to each other in the problem solving process which is what a care plan is all about.

there is a sticky thread with weblinks and attachments including sample care maps done by several students that you can look at in the nursing student assistance forum

if you need help with care planning, refer to information on this sticky on this forum or you can always ask me:
