I don't claim to have exhaustive information on the current state of admissions for nursing grad schools, but I am quite familiar with those in my part of the country. I am not aware of any of them that consider new grad residency as a critical factor for admissions. They are all very interested in the quality of your nursing practice - type of experience & evidence of increasing expertise (e.g., specialty certifications, professional activities). However, since a residency represents a transition program rather than 'independent' practice, it may not even be considered. OTOH, cumulative GPA & GRE scores ARE critical admission factors for grad school (& post grad) admission.

I'm in one of these programs now. It's a great program, but I am not sure that it's going to make or break future job opportunities or my chances of getting in to grad school (my GPA is pretty good). I'm wondering if I didn't complete the residency, if it's going to be that big of a deal? I doubt it would but I'm also struggling with the idea of "quitting" something as I like to follow through on mostly everything. There is no contract associated with it, no buy out or anything like that. It's just the quitting before I get that certificate....I don't know. What do you guys think? I want to take a job clear on the other side of the country, with only 4 months left of residency. IDK...
