completely stressed. Any help?

Hello everybody. I know that my request seems a bit wired but the fact is that I'm so stressed that I really want to change my ward. I'm a brand new nurse here in UK and due to my shy personality I think that I cannot cope well with an environment where I have to interact with people all day long. Despite of that I really love my job. I'm currently looking for a place where the contact with the patient is not so strong during the shift. I love handling drugs, devices and so on. I'm thinking about cath lab or somenthing like that. Any suggestion? Thank you very much. Juan

Theatres or anaesthetics may be an option for you although to be completely honest a major part of nursing is communicating with patients, colleagues, families etc so if your not able to develop in this area then your going to struggle. Even in theatre you have to interact with surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, porters and patients

I would suggest looking at communication courses, self help and confidence building, maybe consider looking at doing some Neuro linguistic programming it'll support you in work and life in general

At the end of the day, if communication is something your struggling with then I have to question if you've chosen the right career

I agree with XB9S that patient contact and communication is a large part of the job.

But there are other areas - clinical governance and clinical training / education and development are both areas with minimal to no patient contact.

But is the problem only since you moved to the UK?

If English is your second language then it will be tough for a while, until you find your feet.

And what about home health / district nursing?

You still have patient contact, but a smaller number of patients that you get to know over time, its not as intimidating as somewhere like ER when you meet a new patient every few minutes.
