Competition for Cal States

Published

Hi All!

Is there any information for the average acceptance rate for schools such as CSULB or CSULA? Does reputation of where one gets his or her BSN/ADN matter?

For example, would it be better to get a BSN from a Cal State versus an ADN from a community college in terms of prospects to get hired?

to be honest, i think a BSN from any accredited university is better than an ADN. I'm applying for CSULA BSN program in a couple months for next fall. I want to apply to CSULB but i have to take another chemistry class because theirs need biochem taught as part of the curriculum as well.

Attending an informational session will be your best bet, but check the websites of each nursing program you're interested in carefully - many will post their info session PowerPoint presentations which can give you an idea of the average accepted GPA or minimum number of application points needed to get in. Locate their current application, count up the number of points you think you'll be awarded and that will give you a pretty good idea if you have a shot.

And yes, a BSN is going to be much more attractive to employers (especially in CA). However, if you don't get right in to a BSN program you can always get your ADN from a community college and then transfer to a CSU for a 1-2 year RN-BSN bridge program.

Thank you so much ScientistSalarian and righteousjen! I have only been part of this site for 24 hours and have learned so much!
