Hi everyone! (^_^)
I am interested in the Competency Assessmeny Program of New Zealand for international nurses.
I am a registered nurse in the Philippines but I am working now in Kuwait.
After my registration, i worked for 3 months as a volunteer nurse and 5 months as a staff nurse in the Philippines. However, last year, i decided to go to Kuwait and worked here. Due to my lack of hospital experience, i am working here as a homecare assistant.
I would like to know if my post registration experience is qualified for CAP.
Based on the website of nursing council in New Zealand, it says that and i quote,
Post-registration experience
Applicants must have completed the required two years post-registration practice, within the immediate 5 years preceding application (no less than 2,500 hours).
Im confused because back there in the Philippines, i worked already for more than 2500 hours, however, my experience as a nurse is still less than 2 years.
Can someone explain it to me. It will be a Great help!
Thanks. (^_^)

I read the requirement myself, and it says there on the application form that :
The Nursing Council requires evidence that you have completed two years’ post-registration experience within the five years before your application for registration in New Zealand. The two years must include a minimum of 2,500 hours of clinical practice.
It's clear that they require 2 years nursing experience within the last 5 years. The 2500 hours pertains to CLINICAL practice and should be within this two-year requirement. "Clinical practice", to the best of my knowledge, means hospital-based nursing like ED, ICU, MedSurg, Acute Care, etc, and any other patient-based practice. This is in contrast to research nursing, nurse educator, nursing manager, etc. But hey, I could be wrong.
The only clear thing, regardless of what clinical practice means, is that you need two years experience. Nothing less.

Yes, clinical experience as a Registered Nurse not as anything else. NZ also has taken Registered Nurse from their skilled shortage list, so it will be difficult to get any visa to work there even if one has already New Zealand nursing registration.

Hi everyone
Can somebody please help me, I got a letter from NZNC for CAP and have tried applying to schools for my CAP however, most schools says they are full for this year and the next intake is Jan 2018, other schools also dont accept Clubbing OET. Anyone here who took oet twice and passed it who got a CAP school? Or do i need to take OET again or ielts again? Its really a big waste of money because i used that with the nursing council and they accepted me but the schools dont? What do i do

Hi Rose234,
I would just like to ask, were you able to obtain CAP? I am in a similar situation just the way you posted it. I am hoping you can give some advice on what you did.
