hi everyone! I am currently in the middle of figuring out what school I should go to for fall of 2012. I am at Hamline University in MN right now but they do not have a nursing program!money is kind of an issue so my choices I have are Normandale community college and Minnesota State, Mankato...I'm kind of looking for the fastest way to get my BSN!!! and to also try working along the way.. I really do not know which school will better prepare me for becoming a nurse....it would really help to hear from people who are in the field and know what matters when applying for a job! can't wait to hear what you have to say...thanks!

With money being an issue, I would recommend getting an ADN from a community college, then getting your BSN afterward. In my area, local hospitals and LTCFs are hiring ADNs, and all also provide tuition-reimbursement towards the BSN courses. It's going to cost me less than $10K (including tuition, books, fees, etc.) to get my RN via ADN, and then the BSN will be free with tuition reimbursement.

Did you apply already? I applied to a couple of schools in MN, I applied to ADN and BSN because I want to get in to whatever I can. In the end I would like to have my BSN and go from there but like Brillohead had mentioned, your work could help you pay for it as well. Apply to a few of each and see what happens?
i am only in my second semester at Hamline and the whole nursing thing is my backup plan to becoming a surgeon. I've applied to several colleges with nursing programs in general but not specifically nursing programs because I do not meet the application requirements currently.I know I want to do something in the medical field but paying 20,000$ this year was a waste and my parents won't let me forget it. I've been taking pre-med classes which don't seem to help a lot with a BSN.
Pre-med sounds awesome! Why don't you go to a community college or cheaper University and take the rest of your pre-med classes? I WISH I would have done that from the start! Good luck with everything!
