Published

Hi!

I'm starting this thread for anyone who is applying to CCBC (Community College of Baltimore County) for the Fall of 2022.

This will be my THIRD and absolutely LAST time applying here. I met with an advisor, got lots of info, and am retaking the TEAS next week.

Feel free to join me here ?

Is anyone already freaking out about dosage and calculations ?

You got this.  Dosage is a ways away, you'll have other exams first.  Worry about those!

At orientation today she told us that we have a dosage exam the second week and if we don’t do well on that we have 3 more attempts but each attempt take away points. She said It will be a quiz grade

Do any one know when they will register us for our classes?

They have started registering us our fall nursing classes  ?

Don't sleep on the one credit professionalism class if you take it through CCBC!  It seems like common sense stuff that you don't need to study, which makes studying difficult.  Many failed the first one and had to dedicate a lot of time to bring up their exam average.

What else besides dosage can we start working on now?

For fundamentals:

-Look up how to make and format a nursing diagnosis, along with a few examples of NANDA diagnoses.

-Look up and memorize the nursing process.

-Look up nursing therapeutic communication.

For assessment:

-Youtube a head-to-toe nursing assessment and do your best to understand what common things people are looking for, it will be one of your skills tests.

-Memorize the names and locations for the 4 major heart auscultation points.

-Look up and practice with various lung sounds (rhonchi, wheezing, stridor, diminished, crackles, etc.) until you are able to consistently identify when auscultating.

I believe CCBC wants you to auscultate 8 anterior points and 12 posterior points.  It's a lot and I have never ever seen anyone do that much in real life, but you need to do it for school.  Memorize the locations.

-Look up identification of different stages of pressure injuries

-Finally, practice vital signs (HR RR and BP manually).  Skills testing allows for a 2bpm margin of error for HR, 2 for RR, and 4 for systolic and diastolic BP.  Keep practicing on family, friends, and yourself until you are consistently in that margin of error.

For professionalism:

-Look up different healthcare plans, along with the positives and negatives (hmo, ppo, etc.)

oh wow thank you

Also, look up ABC's for decision making priorities on tests.

Airway

Breathing

Circulation

In that order of importance.  If you don't know the answer, fall back on this.
