community based cased management

Published

I have an upcoming interview for a case mgmt position with a community based company. The job ad states that the CM would "coordinate care to meet needs of medicaid patients". I have no CM experience. The ad only asked that applicants be an RN with primary care experience. I was an LPN for 10 years working part of that time in primary care but just recently graduated and became an RN. What types of questions should I ask in the interview? What should I expect from this type of job?

Specializes in Oncology, Hospice, Research.

LPN1997,

This post is probably too late for your interview....sorry! Did it go well and are you still interested in the job?

Specializes in Med Surg, Tele, PH, CM.

I work for a Community-based agency as a Case Manager. I assume you have already had your interview... Did you take the job? I love my job, and feel that I make a difference in the lives of the patients I see. I have a large degree of autonomy, which is important to me. Primary care experience is essential to case management, but you it may surprise you how much you will learn as a case manager. A lot of the info that you retained minimally in acute care becomes valuable when you are dealing with a patient on a long term basis. I have learned so much about disease processes and medications since I have been in Case Management.
