Hello everyone!
I will be graduating with my BSN in june! I would like to relocate to columbus, oh, but i heard that they are kind of in a job freeze for nurses there. Do any of you have any advice? Are all the hospitals in columbus really not hiring many nurses (espicially new grads)? How about any areas close to columbus? Any advice on hospitals that ARE hiring and the best ways to get myself to the top of the hiring list! I'd appreciate any help!! thanks!

Not sure what particular specialty you are looking into, but the Ohio Health's on-line job search appears full of positions:
http://www.ohiohealth.com/jobs_popup.html
1. Grant Medical Center is in downtown CMH - Level I Trauma Center
2. Riverside Methodist is around the Ohio State University campus - Level II Trauma Center and well know for cardiac.
3. Dublin Methodist is a brand new hospital in Dublin (duh!) which is on the NW corner of CMH
4. Doctors West is on the west side of CMH
The Ohio State University Medical Center (Level I Trauma Center and also good cardiac hospital) is right on OSU's campus and also appears to be hiring:

Good luck on the final stretch with your BSN and also finding a job here!
thanks!
Im interested in ANY area that isnt OB or pedes. and I'd also work any shift. That new Dublin methodist looks really nice!!

From what I've heard-- Ohio Health and OSU both aren't hiring new grads except for the critical care internship.
You may want to check out Mt. Carmel/St. Anns.
Good luck!

I'm a new grad and I just got hired for Ohio Health at Grant Medical Center, but I feel I was pretty lucky. I was told on here too that it would have been difficult for me to find a job, but I kept trying and trying and I even went into hospitals to speak with HR and really perservered. Nationwide, the children's hospital down here, I'm pretty sure is expanding by 2010. Either way, if Columbus is really where your heart is set on, move here and you are bound to find a job, just maybe not as soon or easy as you would like to.

I am a new grad and am located north of Columbus... Marion hires new grads. Marion is located about 30 minutes north of Delaware. There are occasional openings at small rural hospitals also. Just have to watch their websites. Hope that helps!
Grady Memorial Hospital is located in Delaware, and is part of the Ohio Health system - if there were any openings, they would be on the Ohio Health Site above; (Marion General also)
Memorial Hospital of Union County is located in Marysville and their website is: http://www.memorialhosp.org/careers/career_search.asp .
As for Newark, I cannot remember the name of the hospital there - try a google search.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the information, I will check those out when the time comes. I was just curious if they generally are open to hiring new grads (based on anybody's personal observation or experience).

Licking Memorial Hospital is located in Newark. Fairfield Medical Center is in Lancaster, just southeast of Columbus. I had not heard about a hiring freeze but I know that I have been doing some job searches just to see what's out there and it is limited right now (but I am picky too). A lot of contingent positions at Ohio Health right now. Put in some applications and see what you get, won't hurt anything and welcome to Columbus!
