So where are the potential 2008 Columbia ETPers at? I think a handful of regulars around here have Columbia on their list of apps, so heres a thread to get us through until notifications in Spring 2008. If you'd like, reply here and let us know which specialty you are trying for! I just submitted my app online for Acute Care...Good luck everyone! ;)

Thanks! I'm guessing they put some kind of Columbia something on it since we are making our checks out to the School of Nursing. My guess is if they weren't going to alter them we would be ordering directly from the company like we are with our supplies... but really I have no idea.

that's what i was thinking...and the price is a bit higher, so they're either doing something with them or making money off of us lol

They have the logo and Columbia University School of Nursing on them.

I just sent out the housing application with priority and certified mail yesterday, and I'm already seeing myself in the little cozy room. I hope I'll get a room with a sink.. (well, of course I'm hoping to get a room first, but I'm being optimistic). So, I am already looking (on craigslist) for a mini-refrigerator and a toaster/microwave to add to my space. We did not get any info about dining/dorm restaurants so does that mean we are eating whatever we can? :)

My husband is already telling me that my dream of eating out everyday will come true so I should not worry too much about the fridge and microwave since they will only function as dust collectors. However, I do want my mini fridge and microwave in the room. Are we allowed to bring them into the dorms? I don't see why not.

My husband cannot join me to NY this year so I am applying for the single dorm room. Is the bed big enough for when he comes to visit me? :) I remember the undergraduate dorms in college, and the bed was "sleepable" for 2 people :) But since college years we did add some weight too. :) I like the idea that the rooms are for one person..more privacy to us.

Have a good weekend

I too am trying to be optimistic. It hasn't been that long since I saw the likes of a dorm room, but four years of having my own bathroom back has spoiled me. That was, and is, my only true gripe about dorm living. It would definitely be sweet to have one of the one rooms on each floor with its own bathroom, yeah right though. I'm just hoping for a sink (and a room!) as well. I'm actually in a similar situation PurpleBee, I too must leave the boyfriend I have been living with for the past three years...not a marriage, but we've definitely gotten quite accustomed to being together. He can't move to NY until September so I am on my own in the big city for the summer.

I definitely plan to bring a mini-fridge/freezer and microwave...I remember it being the only thing that got me through dining hall food. If we can have a toaster oven that is amazing because microwaved food gets so old. It's not so bad having them in the room, especially since even the smallest room is livable for one person, you can just set up a little "kitchen" area (ha) somewhere near the sink that you hopefully have. As for the beds, extra long is a bit better, but it's definitely a cozy nights sleep. It would be great if a bunch of us got housing in the same building, here's hoping.

I :heartbeat Google...

I think this is the 'tunic' (item number matches) http://busybeeapp.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=139&zenid=a244bbe45b802b235e84a25ee498b1a5

Looks like these are the pants...

And the skirts...

Last, but not least, the 'warm-up' jacket.

Sorry they are from all over the internet - I couldn't find them all on the same site. Now if only I can find a way to miraculously make the pants 4 inches longer... Any ideas?

lovetotravel2001,

i wouldn't worry too much about the pants being short...just wash them in cold water. with all the stuff in your pants, they'll be drooping down anyway :)

the tunic has the school crown logo and 'Columbia University School of Nursing' on it. it has a chest pocket and two waist pockets.

Hi guys,

I checked the certified mail receipt online and my housing application arrived at the destination.

Detailed Results:

I sent it with Priority Mail ($4.60) and Certified Mail ($2.65) --> $7.25 total.. not bad for how fast it arrived over the weekend.. I was considering express mail at first for $16, but I'm glad I changed my mind..

I have a few questions:

1) How big is the bed? (I read somewhere in here that it is long) What bed sheets should we bring?

2) Do we need a pillow? and night lamp?

3) Does the heater work pretty well? Do we need a sleeping bag? (fall and winter semester)

4) How hot does it get in the summer? I believe we do not have an AC in the room (we can bring our own and get it installed).. should we bring a portable fan?

5) How noisy is the dorm in the summer vs. fall semester vs. spring.. do we need earplugs? In undergrad my next door neighbors were having some sort of party every other night..

Thank you! Have a good week everyone!

1) Beds are twin. Regular sheets are fine.

2) Bring your own pillow and desk lamp.

3) Dorms are wicked hot in the winter and summer. An AC is recommended but you can do without it.

4) See above. A fan was not enough for me and I really tried to stick it out.

5) Dorm was pretty quiet in the summer but I was on a quiet floor at the end of the hall so I might not have an accurate idea.

1) It's a twin. It's practically a cot, actually. I don't remember if I bought extra-long sheets, but I read somewhere that regular twin sheets fit the Xlong mattresses, and the special sheets are a scam. After two weeks I couldn't handle the bed and bought a full-size airbed with a frame.

2) Bring pillows and lighting.

3) I was only there summer, so no idea.

4) It gets very hot, and very humid. I don't mind it so much, so I got away with a fan. Some people can't handle it, though.

5) Again, only there for summer, and it got fairly crazy some nights. During the summer they have a program for younger students to come get a little preview of med school (don't remember if they were college or HS students) and they had a party every night.
