Columbia MDE/DNP 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

It seems that no one has created a thread about this yet. Is anyone else applying for the MDE/DNP program at columbia Univesity for summer 2017? So my basic stats are I have a BA in Speech Language and hearing science with a GPA of 3.0. I'm currently a pre-nursing student taking pre-reqs at qcc, and just have finish taking A&P1 during the summer and got a B+. And my gpa now is 3.14. Which GPA would columbia look at? My gre overall adds up to 300, but the essay portion was pretty bad, only got a 3. I will be volunteering in the hospital starting this sept., I don't know will it still helps with the aplication. I do have many years of working experience at clinics as dental assistant, don't know whether that helps. I'm wondering what my chances are getting accepted. Or I should just be looking at ABSN programs instead. Thanks.

I think many of us are just creating new threads. Have you applied yet? Which other schools are you looking at?

Specializes in Peds, Med-Surg, Disaster Nsg, Parish Nsg.

Your thread has been moved to the Nursing Schools / Colleges forum where the other school specific discussions are. We hope you will receive additional responses in this new location.

I have applied. Did you apply?

if you do not mind me asking, did you get in? This would be really helpful to gage my application. I really appreciate it!

I did get in, yes. Best of luck to you! :)

Thank you so much for responding and congratulations! :) If you went to Columbia, I hope you are enjoying the program! Would you be able to give some insight for myself and future applicants on your stats/experiences prior to applying?

Thank you. I also got into Johns Hopkins and am planning on attending there. I wish I could give you good advise. I worked my butt off. It's a 2nd career for me. I had straight A's in my pre-reqs and a high GPA in my actual nursing program. I belong to STTI, ANA and a local nursing org and my alumni assoc. I went to a top 20 school (at the time, I think it's rated higher now.) I don't know if that matters. I worked right after graduating for 3 years before beginning to apply. I was involved in committees at work and am on the BOD for a community org. and am involved in another community org. I honestly don't know what gets you into one place and not another. It doesn't always seem to make sense. Don't be discouraged. When I applied to school for my BSN, I wasn't accepted the first time I applied, I reapplied the next year and got wait-listed. It was frustrating and I was doing everything I could think of to be a strong candidate. I wish you much luck and continued success. I'm happy to answer any other specific questions you have (to the best of my ability). Hope that helps. :)
