Columbia BSN/MSN ETP 2014

Published

I was surprised that there didn't seem to be a thread for this year's applicants to Columbia's ETP program. So I thought I would start one. The information session was today, but I wasn't able to go. :( I was hoping someone else went and would be able to post any admission statistics or tips for the personal statement they gave.

Amen. I hope there are plenty of us "older folks" in the program. I'm trying to get this done and my career started and family going before 40!

I'm in the same boat. :)

I'm with you guys... 30's career changer over here! I've been in research for the past 8 years.

YES! Career change=life change! and a big one! Who knows where we will be in a couple of months let alone a couple of years. I got to where I am by following my heart and learning to trust the decisions I made and learning from the ones that maybe were not in my best interest....

I am glad to have an open and not totally negative/discouraging discussion about financing education. I have scoured AllNurses for threads on financial aid/private school costs, and a lot of what I have seen has been anxiety making and negative. I appreciate all the input, but I would caution you all from spending hours reading that stuff (like I did.) It just confused me more.

No matter what any of us decide, I want to congratulate everyone on the accomplishment of getting accepted. There is no one answer for any of us, and definitely not for all of us.

I am just doing my best to quiet the noise in my head and try to listen to my heart and my gut.

at this point, since I don't have the FA info yet, it is all just a bunch of noise in my head...

Hey everybody!

I am currently on the wait list but I am still very hopeful to get a spot. I was wondering if there was any new information from the accepted students? Recommended books/reading? I understand the first day of classes is May 28th. When would orientation be? I would really appreciate any info to stay informed in case I do get accepted. I am praying and checking my email everyday! Thanks everybody for such a great forum.

Hi Sweet03nesy!

We haven't gotten any more info except for an email on Financial aid...which I am sure you are hearing all about on this thread :) I will do my best to try to keep all of you on the waitlist UTD. If you want to PM me with your contact info i could try to forward you the info I get :)

Hello and congrats to all! I'm in for FNP... did any of you include your parents' information on the FAFSA? I know most of us are independent because we're older but is that something Columbia wants and/or requires? because I did see something on there about "you might want to add their info if you're a nursing student" or something like that. Just wondering what you all did... thanks!

I definitely did not! Haha. My parents won't be helping me fund any of this, so I feel that their financial information should have no bearing on what I am/am not awarded. Columbia does not require that you include your parents' info.

Depends on your age. I had to do it. On the Fin Aid email they sent us it said:

"If you were born ON OR AFTER January 1, 1990, you must complete Step Four and provide your parents’ financial information."

Oops! I am sorry i gave bad info in my previous post! I guess since I am 27 I just completely read over that part. :X

1990! Did anyone else think "holy crap!" when they read that!?!?

Nope I did not. I was born in 1992 and I am still dependent! haha :D

So glad I don't have to claim my parents for the first time ever.. they have never helped me and I hated having to put down their income during undergrad!

To those on the waiting list: I just declined my admissions offer for the FNP specialty. I hope this leads to good news for one of you :)
