Collin County or El Centro?

Published

I am currently working on my pre-reqs & non-nursing classes. But I am having trouble deciding which program will be best for me. El Centro in Dallas or CCCCD in McKinney. The pre-reqs are different so I need to decide before I waste time and money on classes I may not need.

Thanks!

I don't know anything about the Collin County program, but as for El Centro, it's a great nursing program. I will admit that it is very difficult, and in some cases more challanging than some BSN programs from what I've heard. In order to get in, you will need a 4.0 in the pre-req's and you will need to complete all additional classes with a 4.0 as well. It's very competitive, so if your grades are less than perfect, you might want to check out the Collin County program. If you have any more questions, let me know!

Thanks Brie, I am doing just that and shooting for 4.0 in prereqs and 4.0 in support classes. I have a friend from church who is in her last semester at CC so I can get more info from her about that program. I will just need to take Statistics in addition to the El Centro pre-reqs for CC. Their pre-reqs are A&P I & II, Micro, and Stats.

Problem is the hospitals and campus in CC are a lot further away from me than the Dallas ones. I live in Rockwall, which is far regardless. 25 miles to El Centro and 45 miles to CC.

I have 3 years before I can afford to quit and start a program regardless, so I'm sure I'll figure out a decision by then!

Thanks for your commment!

Hi Bridget,

Just because both programs are so competitive, I would try to take the pre-reqs for both programs and apply to both. That way you would have a back up plan in case you didn't get into one and you don't have all your eggs in one basket.

Good luck whatever you do.

Best of luck with which ever school you choose... also, El Centro has distance learning at North Lake which I believe is in Irving.

Yes, North Lake is in Irving.

(North Irving on MacArthur and Walnut Hill, if you want to look it up on Mapquest.com.)

I would take all of the pre-reqs that are the same at first. Stats isn't required for ECC, but is for most, if not all, BSN programs. So, it would be good to get that out of the way anyway. You never know when/if you will want to return to school in the future to get your BSN. :)

Good luck!

:eek:Has anyone any experience with Brook Haven, in Dallas? Tarrant County College in Fort Worth? I'm taking Pre-Req's at TCC, but my grades before deciding on nursing are B's...will I have to retake them?:o

There's really no way of telling. I think each semester could be different.

I had to retake my pre-reqs that I already had complete from 91/92 (B's to A's) for ECC/NLC's program.

Always apply with what you have, and retake things if you don't get accepted.

Good luck to you!! :)

Collin County by far is a much more organized college. El Centro is not student friendly. Just my two cents.:nurse:
