college ratings in niagara usa?

Published

Well you all remember me from returning to school dilemma, now I would like to ask about any opinions on colleges in the Erie ,Niagarafalls, regions. I have met with admissions at niagara commuity college ,sanborn area. They tell me it will take 2 years to complete the associate r.n. program. I think they also have an extended program in which you can take 3 years to complete it. Is it possible to keep working while attending the 2 year or is it better to extend it into 3? Has anyone done either or and can you specify about the work-load. 0ver here in canada , the college of nurses states anyone wishing to become a nurse will have to attain a bachelors of nursing after the year 2005. I am hoping to slide under that date and complete r.n. status prior to 2005. Another question I have is has anyone trained in the u.s. then tried to be registered in canada? The college of nurses tells me if I train in the u,s. it may not be transferrable and I will have to wait until I complete the program to see if I can then work registered in canada . I THINK IT IS A BIG FARCE!!!!

I went to Erie Community and a gal i work with went to NCCC, we pretty much share the same stories, you'll be doing clinicals in the bufalo area hospitals- Buffalo General, where i work, ECMC- the county hospital, the psych center, and possibly the Catholic hospitals, maybe the Vetrans also. i seem to recall one canadien student in our class. Get the "crap" courses out of the way in the summer is you can, english, math, et al... I went to school full time, worked full time, helped raise my infant, for the first 3 semesters and added a part time job the last semester, so you definatly can go to school and work. Some of the teachers got an attitde with it, but i think there suppose to do that. Good luck to you.

I started out as a student at Erie I BOCES (LPN) and worked full time. I then went to ECC full time for my AAS, then to UB full time for my BSN, and I am currently at UB full time working on my MSN and will graduate in May 2002 as an adult and geriatric NP (all while working full time, keeping house-laundry, cleaning, dinner and dishes etc). It is possible to accomplish anything when you put your mind to it. Do not ever sell yourself short, but if it comes down to it, try to work part time and keep school full time, it will payoff in the long run. Good luck, Kay
