This thread is for anyone who is applying to College of Marin’s Fall 2023 Nursing Program

Hi Ally! The volunteer portion is optional, it is a way for applicants to boost their points. If you do less than 200, you just wouldn't receive points in that section, but are still eligible for the program. I did not do any volunteer hours. And you can absolutely do more than 200!

Hi! At COM, we have 8 week rotations. Each rotation is different. Our on campus hours consist of skills lab and lecture. Skills lab is 2 hours a week (either a Monday or a Thursday) and an open lab for about an hour. I believe the first 8 week rotation is Fundamentals, with a 2 hour lecture on Monday AND Thursday. So about 7 hours a week. And then since it is the first rotation, you will do extra skills and/or clinicals for 6 hours on Tuesday and Wednesday. After that rotation, you would start Med Surg 1. It is important to be flexible in any nursing program because they are also dealing with the clinical placements. For Mental Health, we went to clinicals on Fridays and had our Tuesday and Wednesday off. It can be a lot if you are working or have kids, but it is so worth it :)
