COLLEGE & CNA level2 course

Published

Hi everyone, first let me say this website is a life saver . I love it! You all are like this big family with all this great advice. I'm eager to hear from you all. Starting this fall (2015) I will officially be a senior in college. I a majoring in psychology blahhh I know I know. It seems like a lot of psychology majors decide they want to major in nursing when it's too late!! I figured I've come this far , I should finish and just try nursing in the spring of 2016! Anyways I already have my CNA level 1 certification. I'm ready to take this CNA level 2 course !!! So ready it starts July and ends in December and of course college starts August ends December ! I've been trying to write out a schedule sighs* so here is the damage lol Monday work 7-3, Tuesday college class and Cna class, Wednesday work 7-3, Thursday college and Cna class, Friday 7-3, Saturday & sunday chill... SOOOO I will be in class from 9:30a.m. Until 9:00 p.m. With all my classes I have. When I write it out now it sounds crazy. Nursing is pulling on my heart and I feel as though I've wasted my time with psychology but I have to finish what I started. And working as a CNA in the hospital after I get the certification would help me get a feel for this Occupation.even though I won't be a nurse.. Just to see what it's like a little and watch the nurses around me.i really want this bad and I am excited.so please be kind but also help. Thanks you guys 💕💗💞💖

First welcome to AN glad you found the site.

Your schedule if you really want this does not sound to bad. IF things work out exactly to this schedule. Yes the class days will feel crazy, and my suggestion is get to bed soon after so you can work in the morning. But what what you have going for you is after 3 you have time to do your studying and home work and the weekends as well.

But here are my concerns. Most nursing and CNA jobs will require you to work every other weekend. CNA work is not a Mon. Through Fri job. So I'm not sure if that job will exisit for you unless you work per dem. Especially if you are only wanting to work in a hospital. Also you might find it very hard to find a hospital job that you will get the cream of the crop and work first shift like you want. My last scare for your plan is sometimes it is not easy for you to find a CNA job in a hospital. These jobs can be very coveted and in a big hospital you could be looking at 50-100 hopeful people trying to get a CNA job. Many times these jobs go go to nursing students so with you waiting till springl of 2016 to start your nursing classes you might find it difficult to find the CNA job. Its never impossible but I want to prepare you for maybe the frustrations you might face with your plan. Even if you tell them you will work per dem. For what you want...first shift and no weekends they might pass you up for someone willing to work the off shifts and weekends.

Good luck with everything and I hope things turn out for you.

Would you consider being a CNA somewhere other then a hospital.

Home care CNA work is great, and you always set your own schedules and what shifts you are willing to work. It can be a perfect fit for those going to school.

Omg im so happy you responded ! I was talking so much I left out major details !! I would be commuting í ½í¸’í ½í¸” I have four college classes on campus Back to back on Tuesday and Thursday then I would drive two hours to take my CNA 2 class on Tuesday and Thursday . And right now I work at a nursing home . I would definitely be working every other weekend I forgot to add that ! My parents are consider with all the driving and being too tired to work but I have bills well a bill I need to pay so I need the job.
