I had to take remedial algebra, starting from elementary and going up from there. Well. I am finally about to dive in to collge algebra. I'm scared! I really want to do well. I rocked intermediate and got a B which is awesome considering how bad at math I am. I learn SO much better online, and I have the same instructor and will be using the same program as last time. I just can't get over doing a full semester of it. I miss my 6 week math class, at least the hell was short! 16 weeks now. College Algebra. I totally spaced about when it starts too. I thought it started on the 20 somethingth but it starts next monday and I hadn't even bought my access code yet. Whoops!
They don't suggest the need for a calculator. I didn't need any other than my cell phone calculator last time. Any tips or hints on what this semester holds? I've heard it's pretty much the same as intermediate. I'm hoping that's true!

I took college algebra online over this summer. I am also beyond terrible at math and had to go through elementary, intermediate and finally college level. Some how I ended up with A- in the two remedial and a B in college algebra. I'm not sure what your school's requirements are but we were NOT allowed to use a calculator at all.
My course consisted of a review of intermediate, cartesian formula & circles, fundamental graphs & symmetry, transformations, quadratic formula, one-to-one & inverse functions, polynomial functions, finding roots of polynomials functions, rational & exponential functions, logs & ln, Gaussian Elimination, Gauss-Jordan Method, Matrices, Parabolas, Annuities & Installment Buying, Counting Principles, and Probability.
So pretty much a whole bunch of stuff that doesn't really correlate with nursing math (at least according to a nurse friend of mine).
The kicker about my math class is that the entire grade was based off of 5 tests and the final. None of the homework (which was suggested, not assigned) was graded... and homework is usually what bumps my grade up. No curve and no extra credit.. It was a rough class but I studied my ass off and I'm very happy with my B.
Hope this gives you some insight and GOOD LUCK!

Not going to lie, College Algebra online for me was the hardest class I have ever taken. I've taken other math classes, as well as microbiology and all sorts of other classes since (and got A's) and none compare to that class. I still have nightmares about it. Hopefully it's not as bad as it was for me.

I used a site called Mathway.com to help me with Algebra online. It cost me about $30 for 3 months of help.... but it saved my bacon.
Mathway is great. I used the free problem solver for a while, but sometimes it was tempting to use it on a homework question so I didn't have to spend an hour figuring something out.. It took a lot of restraint not to do that. A free alternative is KhanAcademy.org I used it A LOT. Like to the extent that I have the app on my phone and iPad so I could watch the videos when I was passenger-ing in the car or waiting on line at the store, etc. The way that Sal (the guy that runs Khan Academy) explains things just really works for me.

That guy has a lot of great tutorial videos, no doubt.
