COC Fall 2012

U.S.A. California

Hi! I'm starting this thread for people who are starting the RN program at COC for Fall 2012. I'm so excited i was chosen and can't wait for the orientation and to finally begin the program.

@37 i like the uniform too, i just dont think ive ever spent $45 on just one scrub top, i hope the uniform irons itself or something Lol! I am soo ready to start, i was accepted to the lvn program at AVC so i have a lot of the stuff done i just hope COC will accept it.

@ Kmadrid-Great news... I was accepted. Scary though-they did not send me the first email that stated I was accepted. I called this morning and confirmed that I was accepted, but they did not know why I did not receive the first email. Hopefully this did not happen to anyone else. Just an FYI to all- make sure to RSVP for the orientation.

I know Kmadrid, right? $45 for a top?? I have spent less on an entire set of scrubs, lol. I am so excited for everything but am wondering how I will pay for it all!! At least some of the expenses are just the preliminary things to be purchased so that we will only have to pay for tuition/books(mostly) for the remainder of the program.

Ive been accepted as well! I am still waiting to hear back from a couple other schools though. I will definitely see you guys on Friday!!! I better get to printing all the material up! 3 days a week sounds like a dream!!!!!!!!!!!

@DarleneH Yaaaaay!! Way to go! Congrats. @Desirosee ur right a lot of the costs are one time expenses, and when theres a will theres a way. @1984 congrats! 3 days would be a pretty good deal, lets keep our fingers crossed. Cant wait to start this journey and meet all of u! Since well be seeing more of eachother than our families for the next 2 years! Lol.

Congrats, DarleneH! Awesome! Does anyone know of any other schools that have sent out acceptance emails yet? I am waiting on Pierce, GCC, and LAVC...although I know that LAVC still has the application period going, so they won't be letting people know for a while. If the COC program really is 3 days a week, that will be a big factor in my choosing (if I happen to get accepted by one of the other ones!) although, it happens to be the furthest from my home. I live only 2 miles from LAVC! Anyway, hoping to hear from GCC soon. Kinda have my heart set on their night/weekend program, BUT 3 days a week at COC could sway me if I had to make a choice! Anyway, can't wait to hear all about our program on Friday!! We are all awesome for getting accepted someplace!!!

@nurseoftheworld, @kmadrid- Thanks. I'm excited to have heard back from anyone. These last few weeks have been nerve-wracking! Still waiting to hear from all the same schools @nurseoftheworld- as well as Pasadena and LA County. Nothing yet though. County does not mail out their letters until mid May. I'm thrilled to go anywhere though!

So much for the 3 day a week idea, Wow! Thats all i can say after this Orientation!

I agree! Yikes. So can anyone clarify- are supposed to get two doses of ALL vaccines, regardless of whether we've had it done before and have positive titers?

That was definitely alot of info! So can anyone clarify- are we supposed to get two doses of all vaccines- not just two TB screens? If you've already had one HBv vaccine- this means we need to get another even if you have positive titers?

Sorry about the 3 day a week misinformation, just found out that particular person started in 3rd semester thru the lvn bridge program. U dont have to get 2 vaccines of all of them as long as u have positive titers and proof of vaccinations, if u are unable to get proof then u have to submit a statement as to why u cannot show proof of vaccinations. If u dont have positive titers than u need to get the series of vaccinations and u need 2 TB tests either way. Thats how I interpreted the info. Hope this helps.

Not quite sure why there is so much confusion regarding the vaccines..... Go to ur dr, get your tigers checked. If they're good then try to find the dates u got the vaccines. If your titers are negative then u need to get the vaccines. As far as the tbs if you have had one in the in the last 6 months then get the results and get another test done. If you had one more than 6 months ago, then get another 2 tests done
