Hi, I have been a dialysis nurse for about a year (9months in acute, then transferred to home therapies). I am looking for a good overall nephrology book for nurses, something that covers all aspects of nephrology including all therapy options. I am also looking for a good study book to help obtain my CNN. I'd like to start studying now. Any advice will help. Thanks :)

I was studying for CDN for about a year. A couple of co workers let me borrow the "nephrology core curriculum" books. They are well over 1500 pages and I found it overwhelming. It was so detailed and there was so much, that I never got anything accomplished. What I found more helpful was the handbook for nephrology nurses or handbook for dialysis nurses. What really helped me pass the actual test though was the "mometrix study guide to the CDN test". I'm not sure if they make one for CNN but probably. I also took some online courses off of ANNA. I took courses that I wanted to learn more about and it counted towards continuing education.

I was so frustrated with the material that is out there, that I actually organized a review class for CDN/CNN in my area last summer. I was able to get nurse practitioners to teach and got about 20 students to sign up. Good luck in your studies. It's not easy. I can admit to failing the test the first time I took it due to lack of preparedness. That's when I started looking into other options. The mometrix book helped me with the essentials, which I think will narrow down the subject matter for you.

Step one: join ANNA. It's $75 per year. You can get all of your CEU's for free if you do the monthly online offerings. You get the journal 6 x/ year. Buy " Contemporary Nephrology Nursing: Principles and Practice" it's the best. A review class like the one at the ANNA meetings is good too.
