Can CNM work in a college health clinic and see predominately female students for all their healthcare needs? Anyone in this forum pursue such a route? What was your experience like?

Hmmm - I thought CNM only covered pregnant clients?
Not well woman care? Wouldn't that be more of an WHNP?
To my way of thinking an FNP would be far more beneficial for the college health clinic - then you could see everyone.
With all the cutbacks to colleges nowadays I would think they would want to get the most bang for their buck?
I'm thinking of doing a dual specialty FNP or WHNP because of that! Thank you for clarifying a good reason to get a double cert if its offered :)

Actually, the WHNP scope of practice is entirely within that of a CNM. In addition to prenatal/intrapartum/postpartum, CNMs do well woman care/gynecology from adolescence through menopause, just like WHNPs.
Thanks LookingAhead! Have you known any to work in a school or college clinic?

You could, in theory, work there, but I doubt many people go to midwifery school with that aim. Most midwives want to deliver babies or at least work in the OB field. It is within the scope of practice to provide women's health and primary care. There are some programs which offer a dual CNM/FNP program. Honestly if you want to work in a clinic setting doing primary care FNP would probably be a better choice since CNM largely focuses on OB.
