CNM School and Prior Grades

I am finishing my last year semester before getting my ADN. I have always wanted to become a CNM and my desire for this has only heightened in light of L&D clinicals. My problem is this...

All throughout highschool I was was an A student. I very occasionally got B's in high level math and sciences. My highschool sent me to college at 16 and I began my student nurse education. I continued to get A's in all of my general education courses. However, after the first of 6 semesters of nursing, I quickly realized I was no longer an A student. I was barely scraping by with C+'s!!! The only exception being my first semester (I got a B), and psychiatric nursing (An A-).

Now that I'm about to move onto my BSN, I'm worried about getting excepted into any schools that offer a bachelor's degree, much less CNM. I know grades are very important but is there any hope for me to achieve my dreams at this point? I was a good student, I still work hard to be, but nursing school is the hardest thing I've ever done.

I'd like to know ASAP if I need to lower my goals. I can be happy as a L&D RN, but midwifery is my ultimate goal. Can I make this work?

Most schools want a 3.0 or higher, but it's not absolute. Many will make people take the GRE if they have a lower GPA, and if they do well their chances increase. They don't look just at grades, they look at experience, community service, second language (particularly Spanish), ect.

The good thing about going ADN first is that you can make up your GPA with a BSN. BSN online programs in my area don't calculate your Nursing GPA into admissions decisions. I know frontier will take students with 2.7 or higher. If you don't have the 2.7 by the end of your BSN they let you take some graduate classes to see if you can handle it first. Good luck to you!
