CNM -- Is it hard to find jobs?

I'm hoping to be a nursing student next fall. My goal is to become a CNM. Is it hard to find work?? I live in Massachusetts, and there are quite a few hospitals and birth centers with midwives now.

Hi there and welcome. Some places are harder than others for CNMs to maintain a solid practice. I know in the Pacific Northwest, where I live, CNMs are much-desired and stay busy. Other places, it's more of a struggle. You need to know the market where you plan to live and practice, to decide if becoming a CNM is for you. If you are inflexible and/or unable to move and the market is not good where you are, you may not wish to spend the time and money it takes to become a CNM at all. If you are willing to make a major move for work/opportunity, the outlook is good! Good luck and best wishes, whatever you decide.

I am in Salt Lake, and will be done with my CNM this fall. I am having a hard time finding positions because there are so many practices that don't want to take a new CNM on. Any Ideas? I have a condo here and might have to sell if I have to move. I was just wondering where the practices were you were referring to.. Thanks
