Cna's In Physicians Office

Specialties Ambulatory

HI EVERYONE! I WILL BE ENTERING A CNA PROGRAM AT A LOCAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE NEXT WEEK AND I WILL BE ENROLLED IN A BSN PROGRAM THIS COMING FALL. ARE ANY OF YOU FAMILIAR WITH CNA'S IN DOCTORS OFFICES? IF SO, WHAT ARE THEIR TYPICAL DUTIES AND HOW MUCH WOULD BE THEIR STARTING PAY? THANKS!:)

I have never heard of a CNA being employed at a physicians office. MAs yes, but not CNAs.

Also of note....if you really want to get a CNA certification, you should probably check with area nursing homes and hospitals. Many nursing homes offer free CNA training and will pay for the test. Many hospitals will train you to become a PCT (patient care technician. It would be a good way to save yourself some money.

While I don't personally know of any CNA's in an MD office, I'm sure there are some.... the duties would most likely be similiar to the MA..... you could def do bloodwork, vital signs, weights, secretarial stuff.....

I do agree that you may see more in the hospital..... however, do whatever interests you!!!

Good luck to ya!!!!!

Vanita, the office I work at has 6 LPN's and 2 CNA's. They do vitals, and sometimes call in RX's when the nurse is overloaded. They also do Blood sugars, ear lavage, hearing and eye exams. Also, she will fill in and help w/ Pap smears, surgeries if the nurse is doing something else. The main thing they DO NOT do in my office is chart review, EKG, phlebotomy, injections of any kind, starting IVs, basically not anything invasive. Hope this helped. Oh and from what I hear the pay isin't very good, the girls in registration and check out make same or more than the CNA's there. Hope this gave you a little bit of insight.

I am a CNA and I work in a Dr.'s office part time. I do vitals, blood sugar testing, and they are helping me with doing other things since I am planning on going into thr RN program. I have worked in the nursing home, home health, and the hospital. But for me, the Dr.'s office is the bomb!!! lol Money ain't bad either!! I make more than I ever have. But I also live in a very small town. Some of the wages I have seen for CNA's on other boards, whew!!!! I'm thinking of moving!!!!LOL sassyr
