CNA's, Favorite department to work in?

Published

What's your favorite department to work in? ER, Peds, Continuing Care, Surgery...?

I have been a CNA for 13 years. I love to work in rehab. It is wonderful to know that you have helped someone get better. (usually). It is also neat to learn different mechanisms for improving someone's abilities. Good luck in finding an area that fits you.

Specializes in LTC, Rehab, CCU, Alzheimers, Med-Surg.

Favorite interesting would be cardiac/ICU. Favorite as far as helping people would be long term care!

Its not like Ive worked on a ton of different units to compare, but I would say Med/Surg because you see a little bit of everything and it probably has the most variety of any unit you can work on, except maybe the ED, but those jobs are hard to come by even for experienced EMTs.

Where I work aides dont do much in the ICU except help lift and move patients, although I spent a lot of time in a busy ICU during my EMT training and learned an incredible amount in that time.

I've worked in geriatric LTC, in memory care, and I was a float at the hospital...but my absolute favorite population to work with are MRDD children/young adults, which is what I do now.

I am a float CNA at a hospital and I am not sure which floor is my favorite. Each floor to me has its ups and downs. Depending on how well I get along with the nurses, it will vary in my experience on some floors. Some that stick out to me though is maternity and renal transplant floors. But honestly, not sure if any of the floors have completely taken my interest =/

I've only worked in LTC, and I found that I particularly enjoyed taking care of the Alzheimer's people and the ones needing hospice care.

I've only done skilled nursing and LTC, but I prefer skilled because it's a lot like Med-Surg, where I was trained.

Specializes in geriatrics, dementia, ortho.

My favorite population to care for is elderly people with dementia but because the staffing for that isn't that great, I overall prefer to work in orthopedics where staffing is better because of the higher acuity. I like seeing my patients get up and moving again, and I think all the equipment we use to do it is pretty neat.

My least favorite is regular long-term care, and general med-surg.

My least favorite is ANYTHING with the general population, LOL. I just have no patience for regular people who come in for surgery on their foot and suddenly become incapable of changing their own tv channels or fluffing their own pillows.

I've worked in rehab and in LTC, and LTC is far and away my favorite. I love knowing the residents, knowing their favorite foods or music, or when it's their birthday.
