Do any of you work in rehabs? prisons? if so what is it like ?
I was thinking of applying but first I would like to give myself a idea of what its like.
I hope some of you can help.
Have any of you worked inside a PRISON or REHAB? iIf so what was this experience like for you? I am just a CNA student at the moment but i just want to give myself a idea of what its like. I like helping others ,but I am curious about these..

I haven't worked at either, but one of my good friends worked in a rehab/psyc ward. She said it was super easy too. She said all you do really is open doors for people and pass trays when time to eat.
@brannay do you know if your friend was a cna? Or LVN? Rn?

I work with a couple of really good, experienced CNA's who have worked in a large state hospital (criminal mental health hospital/prison.) Their stories are crazy, and I got really excited about possibly applying for a job at one-until I considered that my kids would actually like me to be there for them. You will deal with violence, and despite what you will be told, you will not be well-protected from violent offenders, and could sustain a lot of damage before rescue. They tell stories of severe injuries sustained by the nurses and CNA's. But the benefits and pay are great.
NayRN thank you for sharing! Safety issues are something to consider .. It may be dangerous

I would really think about it, especially if you are a petite and/or pretty woman or a short and skinny guy. You could quite easily be hurt by an inmate who has nothing to lose, male or female. I personally wouldn't do it, but there are some people who absolutely love it. I would think that rehab would be a lot better. You'd still be dealing with violent patients, but it seems like you might have a little less safety issues there. I can't speak from experience though, this is just my own common sense opinion.
She's an LPN, but when she was doing what I said about just opening doors and such, she was a CNA. She said maybe once a months or so you'd have to wipe someone's butt *for lack of better wording lol* but that was about it. The only downside to where this place is, was the pay. It sucked... but I'm sure you could get better pay somewhere else doing the same. =)
