CNA work in hospitals

Published

I'm currently going to school with the ultimate goal to become an RN. However I am wanting to take a CNA course so I can get my foot in the door and possibly get a hospital job. does anyone know if a hospital will pay / reimburse me for tuition if I am working there? I am asking as far as your personal experience/someone you know. Thanks!

I'm currently a CNA and have worked for a major hospital in the South Puget Sound for three years (Washington State). I've just received my Associates Degree in Pre-nursing DTA/MRP. The Corporation I work for does help pay for tuition and/or reimbursement AFTER the pre-req's have been completed and once you've been officially accepted into an accredited nursing program. I believe they cover up to $4,000 a year for tuition/books etc. You also have to be employed for at least 90 days (have passed the probationary period). Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help. So not until you were enrolled in the pre-reqs did they start paying/reimbursing you, correct?

There is no standard for tuition reimbursement programs. It is not a requirement for employee benefits. Some companies do not even have this as a benefit. You will need to investigate this with each employer.

The hospital/health care system I work for does not pay for pre-req's and I will not be able to get tuition assistance until I am officially accepted into a nursing program. What HouTx Guide says is absolutely true. There is no standard and you just need to research each company to see what they offer. I found out how much the company I work for pays toward an ADN from friends that have received such benefits. I then went on to Google the company I work for and tuition reimbursement. (eg: company x tuition reimbursement)
