CNA, wanting advice on different depts

Published

I'm a CNA and I'm applying for a job. I have never worked in a hospital so out of the oncology, orthopedics, cardic unit,med/surg,spine center, and gero/psych areas, which would you prefer to work in and why. Also what is a nursing PINS????

It really depends on which area you are interested in. There are so many to chose from. I work in a mother/baby unit as an RN. I really love it. The techs that we have do a lot. They can do baby vital signs, weigh babies, feed them, if they are bottle fed! And assist with stuff with the mom as well. They seem happy on the unit I work. I was a CNA before becoming a nurse. I worked in home health, which I loved. Just find an area you enjoy so you'll be happy going to work. That's the most important thing. If you love your job, it will show, and you'll be happy. I do not know what the PINS thing is all about, sorry. All I can "think of is when you graduate from nursing school and you get your "pin" from your school, but I don't think that's what you're referring to, sorry. Good luck. I know I really appreciate everything the CNA's do on the unit I work on, they work hard, but are much appreciated.

Ultimately, it is really a matter of what interests or appeals to you, but I can think of a few basic considerations -- Ortho will involve a lot of heavy lifting, and gero psych will involve doing lots of personal care on demented little old people who either don't want to cooperate or are actively fighting you ...

I am not familiar with "PINS", in all caps, as an acronym -- sorry.
