CNA waiting to take state certification

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

Okay, i have completed the CNA course at my school and I am waiting to take the state cert on may 13th. Here's the problem, I looked on the IL website to check out the info for taking the test and i saw on there that you can work at an LTC for up to 120 days while waiting to take the state cert. I have applied to all the LTC's in my area and havent gotten as much as a phone call back. Is there something I need to be doing? Is there anyone in this boat or have you been? I just want to work. My unemployment ran out this week actually and I'm freaking out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

thanks!

Depending on where you are applying they may have an internal policy not to hire until you have received your license.

Keep sending out the applications though, and honestly the best thing you can do is to show up in person and see if there is someone you can talk to, I applied to well over 30 CNA jobs last year and only got a single interview because a friend of mine worked there. I still didn't get the job because they hired someone with experience. Its a rough job market out there right now even for CNA's, I've had my license for almost a year now and have only gotten one part time job as a home health aid. I live in CT fyi.

Yes, it is really hard to find any job related to the nursing field these days in most states it seems. I am in Washington and it is the same here. There are also too many people available who have licenses and experience that they may not even be looking at your information because there are more qualified candidates out there. Sorry to hear that you are down on your luck these days. Keep trying, eventually something will work!

Things are hard everywhere. Try and relax. If you have to see if you can find some other type of job just to tie you over. Find out if there are any facilities in your area that actually teach CNAs..they may be able to get you started. Good luck with your test and in your job search.
