I am interested in getting into dialysis and am going to be moving to AZ from IL very soon. I only have my CNA certification and am wondering if you are required to be an RN in order to be a PCT in a dialysis clinic. I've read alot about OJT (on the job training) and am wondering how that works. Any info anyone can share would be great! Thanks everyone!!

Okay, i have completed the CNA course at my school and I am waiting to take the state cert on may 13th. Here's the problem, I looked on the IL website to check out the info for taking the test and i saw on there that you can work at an LTC for up to 120 days while waiting to take the state cert. I have applied to all the LTC's in my area and havent gotten as much as a phone call back. Is there something I need to be doing? Is there anyone in this boat or have you been? I just want to work. My unemployment ran out this week actually and I'm freaking out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

Now, here's what im wondering, what do i have to do to obtain a job as a dialysis tech? Is that a job I need to be an RN for? Do they train you on the job? Do I need to be certified as such? Okay everyone, every once and awhile I go on youtube and check out the medical procedure videos just for something to do. I took a phlebotomy class so i like to watch those as well as others. Here's my issue i guess, when i watch them on a video it bothers me a lot. I get pale, cold, clammy, tunnel vision, lol like im going to pass out. but when i was in class i could stick people all day and not be bothered at all. I first realized this when my friends dad who is firefighter showed me a video on how to do an IO. And i had to sit down b/c i thought i was going to pass out!! i was so floored that this had that effect on me! And i was just wondering ifanyone has the same issue? b/c once im in there doing stuff it doesnt bother me, but watching it just does a number on me. thanks! ashleigh

I was told that when it comes to LTC's and neglect or abuse cases that the authorities are usually not contacted automatically, the churches or charities I guess are the ones contacted and deal with it. Maybe I was ill informed but why in the world would authorities not get involved with something like this??? Is it up to the family members to get the police involved b/c chances are the resident is not able to? Would it have to be a private lawyer type matter?? I'm so incredibly confused about this and why this protocol is in place....or lack of protocol I suppose. Any insight is greatly appreciated, and please correct me if I'm wrong on these accounts. My mother in law has been an RN for many many years and was diagnosed with MS in her 20's (she's in her 50's now) and she's never had any issues with getting or keeping a job. Sounds like her boss is just trying to be difficult. Thanks! Ashleigh

Thanks so much for your input. I was just wondering how much emphasis is put on the care plan b/c it's definitely pounded into our head in class. Care plan. care plan. care plan. And my teacher is an RN but it just kind of makes me wonder how much she's actually used one in her career or if she's pushing it b/c the curriculum requires it.

Hello everyone! I am currently enrolled in a CNA course and will be applying to the RN program very soon. In my CNA class, patient care plans are pushed big time. Everything we go over (ROM, BRP ect) is said to be somewhere in the patien's care plan. In quite a few threads I've read on here, I've noticed that it's been said that most of the time nurses dont even have time to even look at the care plans let alone follow them. Is this true? How does one go about assessing the patient's needs if the care plan isnt utilized? Thanks again! Ashleigh
