I am looking into taking the cna course I think through the american red cross its 750 and is around 4 weeks full time.I think after this I would take the state exam. Has anyone done this course. There were other places but I thought this maybe more reputable. Also will it prepare me enough for the boards? Will I have an easy time getting a job? Anything helpful I would appreciate. Thank you

Hello
I to am from Michigan and I took my CNA class through my local community college here in Battle Creek. The class was 2 weeks long, Mon - Fri. from 8am to 4pm. The second week we finished up the classroom part and the last 3 days of the class we had clinicals at a local LTC facility from 7am to 3pm.
After that we scheduled our state test also through the community college and it was clinical and computer based. If we passed that then we received our certification.
The LTC facility that I was about to begin working at paid for my 2 week class and my testing, and now 9 years later I am still employed with them and will hopeful move up to being a nurse after nursing school.
Hope this information helps you out!
I'm sorry to bump this up but was wondering if anyone could share there experience of being a cna in Michigan job wise. I really want to take the course but money and time is a struggle. I could do it but want to make sure it is right. Also if anyone thinks this would be a good place, the american red cross to get training or if they went to a place that was good. I lives in Oakland County.Lastly after you take the month course how long does it take to get your license so you can start work? Thank you so much.

Thank you for your help but sorry for what happened to you. Do they offer the course there or do they hire you and send you for training? I will also call there and look into it. Thank you.
You get trained at their facility. Its a month of classes but after the 2nd week of training you get paid for your participation in class. Since you are actually working. The pay start off was 11.45 I do believe but, it could have been 11.75. The training I think starts at 7:30am and lasts until 3:30pm. There is no contract you have to sign stating you will stay working for them either.
So you don't have to pay for the training? After do they hire you for regular hours after the training? Sorry so many ?'s also is it like interviewing for a job on the decision if they will train you. Thank you so much
No, you do not have to pay for the training.
Yes, they do hire you afterwards if they like your work but it will at first just be part time....but there are alot of places around oakland county that are looking for cna's.
I went in to it like a regular interview. They had my application and asked me questions such as why do you want to work here, what do you think the work will be like, what type of hours can I hold etc. I was told after my interview I was the most qualified for the job since I have 90% of my classes for my LPN (not including clinicals) done. So hearing that I assume that most of the applications are for those who have no "formal" education or just want a job that pays more then what they are making. Which is the reason why they ask you some of the questions in the interview I assume.
I turned down their training they are having january and they usually have new classes every 6 weeks or so it seems.

I don't know where you are located, but I just received a flyer from Romulus Adult Education, there is a 4 week program and is 500 dollars. You should check around local communities Adult Ed programs in your area.
Thank you and I'm sorry for the late reply. I emailed cantebury for more information. How did you hear about this? Is the email inquiry the best way or is there a contact person? Thank you to the other reply. I was hoping to find something that would not cost me a lot due to finance issues. If this does not work out I will look into a class though probably through the red cross. Thank you again.
