LTC VS Hospital

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

Hi, I currently hold a license as a CNA in NY. Currently I am out on disablity cause I am due for my baby in 3 weeks. I plan to go back to work per diem when she is like 6 - 9 months old.

The LTC I work at isnt doing so well and honestly may not be there for me to go back to. So I have some decisions to make. What I wonder is if I went to work at the hospital as a NA which doesnt require certification am I taking a step down? Do hospitals offer more training? Or just less pay and more responsibility? I like the aspect of maybe getting trained for blood draw or something more than NA. I love what I do but I do want more, and till my daughter is a lil older like old enough to go to nursery school, i just cant go to school for LPn, so I want to weigh my options. I been an aide for along time. I dont feel challenged anymore, thou I love my residents and know I do make a difference.

Thank you for reading and any good insight

I was wondering some of the same things. I went to school for medical assisting and graduated in December with an Associates degree in that. I havent landed a job yet, so I applied to a hospital nursing assistant position. They called me the next day after applying online..interviewed last Wednesday..and was told they will be hiring people early this week. I think it went well. Where in NY do you live? I live in Buffalo. How much were you making if you dont mind me asking? I thought hospitals pay more but it might be different depending on the area. I think you could ask them when you interview about training. There is something around here I saw called Immediate treatment assistant. Sounds somewhat similar to nurse assistant but includes more computer work and says you need phlebotomy and glucose certification within 60 days (not sure if they pay for it or not). Only thing that sucks for me it says need 1 year experience as an unit clerk or patient experience I think. I also have a dilemma about if they offer me this job and now Im trying to hopefully interview at this other place asap before the hospital calls any day now. They also had an opening to the public today (was for associates at first) for the maternity department...I applied today but someone else working there might get it first. It was up a little while before being made to the public but its still up so maybe not? Good luck
