Thinking about switching to Medical Assisting from Dental Assisting

Nursing Students CNA/MA

I live in Michigan and I am currently going to Dorsey for Dental Assisting. But I'm thinking about switching to Medical Assisting. I thought about doing Medical Assisting before doing Dental. But I've read that it's difficult finding a job as a Medical Assisting after graduating. But the school does offer career services in regards to finding a job. I just feel like as a Medical Assistant I would be able to do more. I know Dental Assistance do get paid more per hour though.

What would I be able to do after working as an MA? And what are some good locations for MA's to work?

Specializes in Cardiology, School Nursing, General.

From Texas!

I basically got done with a 1 1/2 of school and went straight to work after my clinicals and graduation. I find jobs easily, basically put in Texas I'm a cheap version of a nurse, I can do what I nurse can do, if I have a physician written order, verbal order, physically there, as well with NPs. As well if I'm trained on the job to do something, so IVs, I can do them because I learned how to them in one of my clinic jobs. So I now have that skill set I can put in my resume and such.

I can work anywhere, from clinics, to hospitals.
