CNA job for only 4 months?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

Hello,

I just got my CNA certificate and got a job at a nursing home close to where I live. It's the pm shift with about 10 residents. I am planning on going to an accelerated nursing program this May. Is it really frowned upon to leave this new job in just a few months? They never asked about my future availability so I didn't lie or anything. Should I stick it out for a year? Or leave in May?

any advice is much appreciated :)

I'd work as much as you can until May and switch to contingent/prn once you start your program. Good luck!

It's not unusual to stay for just a short time. CNA's come and go all the time. You did not make any promises nor did you sign a contract.

Think of it this way, you are doing what is best for you just as they would do what is best for them....they would let you go if it were low census...etc. It's business...yes, a home and people's lives, but in the end, it's business.

I totally agree with the other posters. Work as much as you can. Maybe consider going to part time or PRN when you begin courses if you feel comfortable. The longer the better for resume purposes be I've struggled with similar scenarios and you truly have to do what will benefit you most in the future.
